Journals Fact Sheet

Increase your journal’s impact factor

and visibility with a dataverse, an easy way to post replication data and other information associated with published articles

What is a dataverse?

A dataverse is a virtual archive where authors can upload replication and other data sets associated with their articles in your journal. It increases your journal’s impact factor and web visibility via formal citations to data and can be easily customized to appear as part of your journal’s web site.

How do I get a dataverse for my journal?

Go to http://dvn.iq.harvard.edu and click "Create Your Own Dataverse". (It takes less than a minute!) Afterwards, you can customize your dataverse to look like part of your website. Then you make a tiny change in your work flow, requiring almost no additional time after setup, to give authors of accepted articles access rights and either encouragements or requirements to share their data on your dataverse.

What are the features?

  • Safe and permanent data storage in preservation format.
  • No need to translate data when statistical software formats change.
  • Formal citation credit for your data, including globally unique identifiers and universal numeric fingerprints.
  • Establish an unbreakable link between journal articles and their associated replication data.
  • Easy ways for others to find your journal's data and related publications.
  • You may share the data with everyone, those who sign a licensing agreement, or only those you approve.
  • Allow users to download data in any format and run many advanced statistical methods on-line.
  • Takes care of many legal, IRB, and privacy-related aspects of data sharing.

What is the Dataverse Network Software?

It’s a web application that serves out individual dataverses to scholars, research groups, journals, presses, scholarly organizations, departments, libraries, universities, and archives. IQSS developed it at Harvard, and several sites including IQSS maintain permanent archives and run the necessary software and servers. See http://TheData.org for more information.
